Having experienced Alopecia for over 38 years, I have discovered greater well-being and support along this journey through mindfulness, yoga and iRest® meditation.
I taught internationally for 20 years in the public and private school systems and was granted a year sabbatical visiting schools around the world. During this time abroad, I completed two master degree programs in education. While completing postgraduate research on the effects of yoga on academic achievement, I first developed an interest in combining yoga and education.
As an avid yoga practitioner, I completed two 200 hour yoga teacher training certifications upon repatriating back to Toronto. After being introduced to Yoga Nidra and discovering the healing benefits of iRest® (Integrative Restoration®), I have awakened to a path of integrating education and well-being, and have become a Certified iRest® Teacher.
Moreover, in order to continue developing personally and professionally, I have completed yearlong programs of study with Dr Richard Miller, such as Breathing for Life: Principles, Foundations, and Practices of Pranayama, The Path of Non-Dual Meditation, and currently, The Dharma of Self-Inquiry. Starting in 2025, I will be taking The Embodied Path 300 hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training.
Thus, I appreciate being able to apply all of these experiences while teaching in the public school system and when collaborating with nonprofits and organisations, including teaching children with special learning needs, women detoxing from addictions, and people with autoimmune conditions. I have offered meditation and yoga through UofT, OISE Wellness (Ontario Institute of Studies in Education), Vivaya, Courage Health and Wellness, JabuMind app, Freshpaint Creative Corporate Wellness, and Doggos Puppy Yoga. I am grateful for being able to share these practices and for learning from generations of teachers, students as well as loved ones, especially my nieces and nephews.
